River fishing in the Rogue Valley of southern Oregon is diverse and offers every opportunity to the fishing enthusiast. The Rogue River is a large river that originates around the Crater Lake area, flows down across Oregon and spills into the Pacific Ocean around Gold Hill, Oregon. The scenery on either side of the river is beautiful with deep groves of trees, old growth forest, rocky cliffs and 12 miles of designated wild section within the Wild Rogue Wilderness. This section of the river requires a permit to ‘float from May 15th to November 15th. Otherwise, the boats accepted are 2x4 drift and powerboats. The angling season lasts all year on the Rogue River. The river is home to cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, Coho salmon, steelhead and Chinook salmon. You can fly fish, use spinners or bait. There are private boat launches near Agnes, Oregon. This small town is on the north part of the river.

The Illinois River gained federal status as a wild and scenic river in 1977. Boat size is 2x4. You can fish for steelhead, rainbow trout, Coho salmon, and Chinook salmon. The Upper Rogue River is forty-five minutes northeast of Medford is worth the short drive for the fly fishing. Spinners and bait are also used. You can catch cutthroat trout, rainbow trout and the very delicious brown trout. The river has deep pools and fast running water and incredible scenery.
